Last week the ice shanties began appearing out on the lake. I love going out and looking at these little shacks with so much personality.Out on the ice, a makeshift community emerges. Everyone is very friendly as they even came out of their shacks to talk with us. They were probably wondering why on earth we were out there photographing them instead of fishing. Sadly though, as quickly as the fishing shacks appeared, they disappeared. A big warming trend happened this week and the solid sheet of ice that served as a foundation has rapidly disappeared. Winter seems to be eluding Maine this year. We see glimpses of it, but it feels more like April then it does January. It was fun while it lasted.
